I’m Mae Cheung, founder of MCheung Consulting. I help philanthropic and nonprofit organizations work smarter. My creative and practical advice is rooted in decades of legal expertise and organizational leadership. My focus is on building strong, mission-driven systems. Whether you're launching something new, working through a transition, or navigating complexity, I'm here to help you move with clarity and purpose.
I have deep experience in launching and managing multi-entity nonprofit structures and have served as both in-house and outside counsel to a range of nonprofit organizations. Before starting my own firm, I was Vice President of Operations and General Counsel at the Bainum Family Foundation, where I led the startup and management of its 501(c)(4) affiliate, the Children’s Equity Fund.
I hold a J.D. and B.A. from the University of Notre Dame, as well as a Master’s in Education and Human Development from George Washington University. My background also includes teaching at a small liberal arts school and serving in various leadership and advisory roles, including currently chairing a nonprofit that supports refugee resettlement.
